Hi guys. I normally would not ask for assistance, but in this case my love for this little girl outweighs my pride in not wanting help for anything.
My best friend and her husband are the proud parents of this beautiful child you see above, her name is Callie Sidor. She is currently in her Kindergarten year of school, has a baby brother, loves the color pink, and her favorite animal is a Narwhal. She is a bright, beautiful little girl and I am so blessed to have gotten to spend the last few years watching her grow.
A few weeks ago her parents heard the news no parent wants to hear. “We see something abnormal, we want to run some more tests.” Flash forward and after all the test were ran, they told them they found a mass in her brain, it was then biopsied and we waited several days to hear an answer. As their friend it was excruciating, so I can only imagine being the parent. The great news is the tumor is benign, however the fix is not simple. The technical name for what she has is a Pylocytic Astrocytoma, Grade 1. Unfortunately it is inoperable, as it is wrapped around the optic nerve. We were told that if they tried to remove the tumor they would have to sever the optic nerves leaving Callie blind, and so they told Kristen and Jeff surgery was not an option.
Yesterday we met with the oncologist for the treatment plan. Again the tumor is not cancerous, however they have to treat it just like it is. Callie will begin chemotherapy treatment next month. They are still customizing to her specific type of tumor and so tweeks and changes will be taking place until they find the perfect combination. Callie will do treatments for 12 months with scans every three.
As you can imagine, even with insurance, medical bills and time off work are going to stack up. Any help you can give this sweet family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
