Wir fahren in den Krieg, um schwerkranke Kinder zu retten — und müssen wohl bald damit aufhören.

Ich bin Marc Friedrich, Notfallsanitäter und Gründer von Ambulance for Kids. Seit 2023 evakuieren wir schwerkranke, verletzte und besonders schutzbedürftige Kinder aus der Ukraine — innerhalb des Landes und über die Grenzen hinweg, dorthin, wo sie medizinisch behandelt werden können.

Viele dieser Kinder haben keine Zeit.

Kinder, die in Kellern beatmet werden.

Kinder, deren Infusionen von Hand gehalten werden, weil der Strom ausgefallen ist.

Kinder, deren Eltern uns anflehen: „Bitte rettet unser Kind.“

Kinder, die keine Eltern mehr haben.

Kinder, die nahe der Front täglich unter Beschuss stehen.

Was oft übersehen wird:

Nicht nur Bomben und Drohnen gefährden das Leben dieser Kinder.

Auch der Zusammenbruch der medizinischen Versorgung.

• Krebsbehandlungen werden unterbrochen

• Dialysen fallen aus

• Intensivstationen müssen evakuiert werden

• Sauerstoffversorgung bricht zusammen

• Frühchenstationen arbeiten unter Daueralarm

Diese Kinder brauchen keine Hilfe „irgendwann“.

Sie brauchen heute einen Transport.

Heute Medikamente.

Heute eine Klinik.

Denn für einige von ihnen gibt es ohne Hilfe kein Morgen.

Unsere Realität

Wir haben:

• ein erfahrenes, ehrenamtliches Rettungsteam

• einen speziell für Kinder ausgestatteten Rettungswagen

• ein medizinisches Netzwerk in der Ukraine und Europa

• Kliniken, die bereit sind, Kinder aufzunehmen

Was uns fehlt, ist eine stabile Finanzierung.

Unsere Einsätze sind aufwendig und teuer.

Eine einzelne Evakuierung kostet 4.000 bis 5.000 Euro.

Darin enthalten sind:

• Medikamente und medizinische Ausstattung

• Kraftstoff für lange Strecken

• Wartung und Reparaturen des Rettungswagens

• Schutz- und Kommunikationstechnik

• Unterkünfte und Logistik entlang der Route

Unser Team arbeitet ehrenamtlich.

Doch diese Kosten tragen wir allein.

Und genau deshalb stehen unsere Einsätze jetzt auf dem Spiel.

Was passiert, wenn wir nicht mehr fahren können?

Dann bleiben Kinder im Kriegsgebiet.

Ohne Zugang zu medizinischer Versorgung.

Ohne Transport in eine Klinik.

Ohne echte Chance auf Behandlung.

We are driving into a war zone to save critically ill children — and soon, we may no longer be able to continue. 

 My name is Marc Friedrich, Critical Care paramedic and founder of Ambulance for Kids. Since 2023, we have been evacuating critically ill, injured, and highly vulnerable children from Ukraine, both within the country and across borders, to places where they can receive lifesaving medical treatment. 

Many of these children do not have time to wait. 

Children being ventilated in basements. Children whose IV lines are held by hand because the power has failed. 

Children whose parents beg us: “Please save our child.” 

Children who no longer have parents. Children living under daily shelling near the front lines. 

 What is often overlooked: 

 It is not only bombs and drones that threaten these children’s lives. 

It is also the collapse of medical care. 

• Cancer treatments are interrupted 

• Dialysis treatments fail 

• Intensive care units must be evacuated • Oxygen supplies break down 

• Neonatal units operate under constant air raid alarms 

 These children do not need help “someday.” They need transport today. Medication today. A hospital today. 

Because for some of them, without help, there will be no tomorrow. 

 Our reality We have: 

 

• an experienced volunteer emergency response team 

• a specially equipped pediatric ambulance 

• a medical network across Ukraine and Europe 

• hospitals ready to receive children  

What we do not have is stable funding. 

Our missions are complex and expensive. 

A single evacuation costs between €4,000 and €5,000. 

 This includes: 

• medications and medical equipment 

• fuel for long-distance transport 

• maintenance and repairs for the ambulance 

• protective and communication equipment 

• accommodation and logistics along the route 

Our team works entirely on a voluntary basis. 

But we carry these costs alone. And that is exactly why our missions are now at risk. 

What happens if we can no longer continue? 

 Then children remain in the war zone. Without access to medical care. 

Without transport to a hospital. 

Without a real chance of treatment.
