Jeanne’s Road to Recovery- Motorcycle Accident
A Memorial Day motorcycle ride turned tragic for my mom and her boyfriend, Bill. As they were riding down a country road, a pickup truck made a left turn in front of them, causing them to crash head on with the truck. Sadly, Bill passed away at the scene and my mom was thrown through the air and was found critically injured several yards away from the crash site. My mom was rushed to the hospital in critical condition not knowing about the fate of her long-time boyfriend Bill.
She arrived at the hospital with life threatening injuries including a torn aorta, cervical and thoracic spine fractures, fractures to her right wrist, right tibia and fibula, left hand, left femur, left tibia and fibula, pelvic fracture, multiple fractured ribs, fractured sternum and a collapsed lung. She was put on a ventilator and placed in a medically induced coma. She went through 6 surgeries over the first 10 days in the ICU. After two weeks in the ICU, a tracheotomy and feeding tube were placed to help support her ventilation and nutrition. After 25 days in the ICU, she was able to be moved to the critical care center at a hospital closer to our family. My mom is confined to the hospital bed and is currently still in need of the tracheotomy, along with other life sustaining medical equipment. She does not have feeling or movement below her chest as a result of her thoracic spine injury. She is staying as positive as possible and is working on her recovery physically, mentally and emotionally. Family and close friends have been able to visit with her to keep her in good spirits, encourage her and continue to support her long road to recovery.
My mom will require medical care and rehabilitation for many years. The money collected from this Go Fund Me will begin to assist with her medical bills and rehabilitation journey. My mom’s life will permanently be changed because of this tragic event.
If you are family or friends of my mom, you already know that she is an amazingly vibrant person who is full of love. She is a single, hard-working mom that helped raise my sister and I. I recently moved back to Ohio with my wife, Morgan, and my now 16 month old daughter after being stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell in Clarksville, Tennessee. My sister Kaylee and her husband, along with their 3 year old twin boys, finally returned to the states from Germany after Michael served 4 years at Ramstein-Landstuhl in the U.S. Air Force. My mom had her 3 grandchildren together for a few short weeks before this accident happened. She was so excited to have her family back together and watch her grandchildren play.
My mom has such a big heart and has so many friends that she cares deeply about. She has a way to draw all her friends together and show them the beauty that she sees in life. Whether it be bike rides, sunsets, walks, trips or just listening to music, she has an appreciation for the simple things in life and is eager to share them with everyone.
