On Saturday February 11th, 2017 our almost 67 year old dad was attacked in his vacation home in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. He was beaten severely. Repeated blows to his head, face and body. He is covered in bruises and his eye was swollen shut. His dental plate was broken. That wasn't enought that his head was sliced open and he was stabbed in the neck. He was left for dead. The next morning a passerby by noticed blood pooling out his ground level apartment door. He was then brought to Puerta Vallart hospital where they stitched him up identified swelling on the brain and that he had acute kidney failure.
From Canada I was working with my dads friends who supported him there as well as the Canadian consulate and the doctors. I was told to come down immediately. Swelling started to go down and dad started to get more aware of what was going on. The doctor told us we were able to fly back on Sunday, having waited 7 full days due to brain swelling, to Canada where dad would need a lot of follow up. He was discharged in my care. I was supported by all his wonderful friends in PV and thanks to family was able to get a flight back home.
Dad receives good news today from our doctor here in Canada that there is no bleeding on the brain and his kidneys are already healing so fast . He is still is extrememly weak. He needs help walking and falls easily. He drops things easily and has difficulty speaking. We have many more specialist appointments in the near future as we continue on his road to recovery.
During this incident Dad accrued an approximately $10,000 medical bill that is in no way covered by his insurance as he wasnt eligible for extended coverage past 40 days due to previous broken neck and medical history. My emergency flight down, his personal belongings that were stolen, his denture plate and that dad had to abondone all his belongings in his apartment in Mexico. He doesnt even have a pair of shoes. We assume his shoes were taken by attacker as his own were blood soaked. I will have to get dad winter attire and set him up with a new phone all that stuff. Dad will be staying with me until he is 100% better.
The money we receive will go diretly to dads medical bill. Any money after that will cover the cost of caring for dad ( replacing items like phone, clothes, dental piece, shoes, gas to medical appointments) after that if there is anything left it will cover the cost of my emergency flight to Mexico. ( The flight home was already covered by my uncle. Merci et je t'aime).
Any help at all will be appreciated more than you know.
