Jean Thomas- sepsis survivor & quadruple amputee

Hi my name is Stephen Wheeler, I am managing a fund raiser for my mother in-law Jean Thomas. As many of you know, Jean became suddenly and seriously ill with sepsis and a serious DIC complication resulting in rapid organ failure. Despite the doctors giving her little chance of survival, she miraculously beat the odds and survived.
Unfortunately, the DIC combined with life supporting medications resulted in severe vascular damage to her hands and feet. Sadly, on Wednesday, December 01, 2021 Jean had to have both hands amputated. Then two days ago, February 01, 2022 she had to have a double amputation of her feet.
As a quadruple amputee, Jean is going to need a lot of support in her rehabilitation. We are learning that many support mechanisms such as a ramp to get into the house, stair lift, railings, other accessibility adaptations to the house and car are not covered by the province or health insurance. Many, many people have asked if they can help. As friends, and family of Jean and Bill we are hoping to raise funds to help cover off some of these necessary expenses. We have identified a goal of $30,000.
Jean loves to cook and bake, to horseback ride, sail, work in the garden and go for hikes. She is a very attentive and loving mother, grandmother and friend. It is our greatest hope that family, friends and community can come together to help provide the support mechanisms that will allow her to return to the things she loves and bring her back to where she shines brightest: the kitchen of her home on King Street in Truro, NS. We hope to have the supportive devices for her by May 2022 or sooner.
This fund will be administered by myself, Steven Wheeler. Any unused funds will be donated to The War Amps Canada, to assist other amputees.
