JEAN MWALE..Cancer Survivor & Double Amputee
Donation protected
Everyone! My name is Jean Mwale. I am a 2 time cancer survivor, double amputee(below the knee), a single mother and most importantly a humble God fearing woman.
My life changed dramatically when I was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2003. I spent a considerable amount of time at Shadyside hospital undergoing chemotherapy and was informed that I had a slim chance of having children. My prayers were answered and I had twins. A few years later I was feeling unwell and went to my doctors to see what was going on. After another round of tests, I was informed that I had another type of lymphoma and had to go back in hospital for more chemotherapy. I was devastated because the thought of chemo again almost broke me mentally and physically. I prayed and decided to be strong and also realized that how could I leave my children and my amazing parents. I went back to Shadyside for my second round of chemo and I was determined to beat this cancer also. I truly thought it would be easier as I was familiar with the process but NOT AT ALL. My team of amazing doctors and nurses at UPMC kept me motivated and gave me hope.
After my miraculous survival of 2 very life-threatening cancers and the birth of my beautiful children, I decided to go to Africa to celebrate. Upon my return to the United States, I stopped over in Boston to visit some friends and ended up getting septic shock (sepsis). This ultimately ended up in me getting both my legs amputated and some of my fingers.
Now here I am walking with the help of my prosthetic legs made by Delatorre Union Prosthetics, in remission from both my cancers with help from my UPMC family.
My goal now is to be an advocate for anyone who has or had cancer. In addition I want to be an advocate for anyone who has any limb loss of any kind. If I can inspire even 1 person to stay strong and believe that miracles are possible I will be the happiest person. I feel it’s my calling to give back and that’s why I am writing my autobiography titled” I survived it all by Jean Mwale” GOD willing it will be out before the end of this year 2022.
I have identified a goal of $125,000 to buy a home equipped with modifications for me to be able to move around safely and a stable home for my children. My children’s father is unable to help support the children as he has medical issues that prevent him to assist financially or physically. For any well wishers willing to pledge a home or you have a home you don’t need you can contact me.
Please assist to rebuild my life. Along with your prayers please consider making a donation so that I can raise my children to the best of my ability.. ANY AMOUNT will be very much appreciated. I have been in touch with several institutes dealing with different types of limb loss. I have also been in touch with various cancer institutes. An unused funds from this gofundme will be donated by me and split between other fellow cancer survivors and organizations who support individuals with limb loss. These 2 causes have touched me so much as I have experienced BOTH. I truly want to be an advocate worldwide for these causes as I feel my experience may touch someone and maybe make their lives a little bit easier and brighter.
This fund will be administered by myself Jean Mwale. I know times are hard for everyone, so I can certainly understand if you are unable to donate financially. For those who are able and can find it in there heart to help, please know I appreciate from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you in advance for considering donating to my journey. Often times people don’t realize how life changes for an amputee. Once you are in the house, all is good but as soon as you go outside it’s a whole new world. Small things like a raised side walk or just twigs laying around could be life changing.
In conclusion I will be updating everyone with the progress of buying the home equipped with safety parameters and also the donations of the unused funds to cancer and limb loss. Please remember that no donation is too small. Any and every amount will be appreciated
