Towards the end of 2016, Jean began experiencing pain which she thought was a cavity headed toward a root canal. Ultimately she was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia, which has been labeled one of the most painful conditions known to humans, and a brain tumor (Vestibular Schwannoma).
Terminal neuralgia is without a cure and over time the pain only continues to increase. The tumor is wrapped around this nerve and precluded it from being removed.
Radiation in 2018 stopped the growth of the tumor but could not reverse Jean's partial right hearing loss, facial numbness, and pain.
During the spring of 2020, Jean experienced more hearing loss, facial numbness, and now the pain that she describes as "electric shocks" pulsating through her face.
In June of 2020, her neurologist was at the end of what he could do for her and referred her to a neurosurgeon.
It was at the Mayo clinic that it was decided to perform surgery. Some surgeries are "slam dunks", in that the surgery corrects the problem and the patient is as good as new.
In Jean's case, they are unable to remove the whole tumor as it is wrapped around the trigeminal nerve and has displaced an artery. The success of the objectives is varied. There are many risks, but with the pain becoming debilitating it is her only option.
She will be hospitalized for approximately 4 days. Adding to this already stressful situation is that she will not be able to work for 3 months and her company does not offer disability.
Jean is a 'put one foot in front of the other' kind of person. She carries on without complaint, has no desire for pity, and continues to care and help those she loves. For those of us that know Jean, it has been heartbreaking to watch.
She has not asked for any financial assistance, but many of you have asked how you can help her. Please consider redistributing your financial resources to cover her medical and living expenses during this time.
Our goal is to raise $15,000 before her surgery so she can focus on healing and possibly any new physical limitations. Let's reduce her financial anxiety so she can put her thoughts into healing!
