Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

My sister, Jean Ma, passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2024 from Sudden Death Due To Epilepsy (SUDEP). She was only 29 years old, and had been living with epilepsy since she was 9 years old. Despite this, she had successfully graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in education and childcare development, and she had been working as a dedicated 4th grade teacher for the CONNECT community charter school in Redwood City. She was passionate about her students, her school, her classroom, and she had the kindest soul that made her so perfect for teaching.

My parents, children, and sister are all deeply grieving the loss of Jean and her sudden departure from our family. We know that she is no longer suffering from epilepsy, but we would like to raise awareness around epilepsy, SUDEP, and contribute to the large community of people who are impacted by loved ones living with epilepsy.
