Deidra Lee
A month before her 30th birthday Deidra suffered a debilitating stroke. She had to have brain surgery and was in a coma for 14 days. When she woke up, she could not move her right side or speak. She was in the hospital for 46 days and in rehabilitation for 4 months.
She has worked very hard and after years of different therapies, has come a long way. She was in a wheelchair and could not walk. Now she can walk with a brace and cane, bathe, and dress herself. However, the money ran out and we were no longer able to afford further therapy.
This summer with the help of a friend who teaches swimming, Deidra was able to learn to swim using only the left side of her body. She was swimming 20 laps each day. Her movement and agility improved. She began to have some movement on her right side. Her confidence soared. She has done so well with swimming. It gave her hope that with additional therapy, she could improve her quality of life to get closer to the life she once knew.
The goal is to raise enough money for her to be able to have 3 hours of therapy a week for the year 2020.
