Welcome! Thank you for clicking this link and helping me with this cause. As many of you know, (or for those of you who don’t), I recently moved to a small Northern Alberta community called John D’or Prairie. It is a wonderful community filled with amazing people, beautiful scenery, and (you guessed it), LOTS of gorgeous dogs and puppies. Unfortunately, many of these dogs aren’t in the best condition and may not have homes, food or the proper medical care that they need. That’s where I (and hopefully YOU) come in.
Your donation will be used to buy dog food to donate back into the community for those who can’t afford dog food, build dog houses for those dogs that don’t have a warm place to sleep at night, and finally, cover vet bills of any animals that needs urgent medical attention.
After I have made sure a dog isn’t owned by any community members, I liaise with a local rescue to get the dogs into proper care and then eventually, into their future home! So far, we have been able to rescue and relocate 5 dogs and 1 cat (not including the ones we kept!)
So if you, or someone you know, is looking for a good cause to donate to, please consider this one. You can make a huge difference in the life of an animal.
Scroll down to see some of the animals we have helped and rescued so far.
Biggie and Mama (a dog who had no owner but had been pregant MULTIPLE times) waiting to be picked up by an animal rescue team.
This is Biggie. He was involved in a very bad dog fight where his ear was almost ripped off and received multiple wounds over his body. He’s all stitched up now and waiting for his forever home.
This is Nugget. He was very skinny and limping when we found him, but super affectionate and playful. He lived with us for a few days and is now in a very happy home.
This is Chester the cat, a very clingy cat who knew exactly where to go for the most attention and food. That led him to us. He has now found his forever home.
This is Winkie, a young German shepard. She was surrendered by her owners to me as she was in heat, wouldn't return home and was constantly being bothered by male dogs. She is now at an animal rescue waiting for her forever home.
This is Wolfie. Wolfie was hanging around the area, followed me to and from work, and loved to join us on our walks. He unfortunately was hit by a snowmobile two nights ago. I drove him to the emergency vet and he stayed the night and got x-rays.
His x-ray revealed a fractured pelvis, which thankfully the vet said will heal on it's own with lots of rest and recoupperation. He is now at the local animal rescue on bed rest (and painkillers) until he fully recovers. Then he will find his forever home.
This is Auggie. She was from a local litter and Chris and I decided to keep her. Unfortunately, her first vet trip revealed some severe birth defects that would seriosuly affect and shorten her quality of life. Auggie spent a couple of short and wonderful weeks with us, until we made the difficult decision to put her down.
This is Dobby. We have known Dobby since we moved here in August, and always followed us on our walks, came to visit us multiple times a day, and always was looking for a snuggle. After we lost Auggie and came back to JDP after Thanksgiving, we decided that Dobby needed a home and we had one. So now Dobby has found her forever home with us. She's extremely spoilt!
This is the doghouse that Chris built for some of the local strays to sleep in. With a little funding, we hope to build quite a few more so no dogs freeze this winter! It was about $300 in materials for this doghouse, but if we bought greater quantities of wood and insulation, it could be a lot cheaper!
