Help Doug Save Hector: Urgent Medical Fund

Dear Friends, Family, and Fellow Animal Lovers,

On April 11th, my dad, Doug, experienced a heartbreaking incident when his beloved dog, Hector, was struck by a jeep while returning home from the dog park. Hector sustained severe injuries, including a ruptured lung and multiple other traumas, particularly to his right hind leg. His dedicated veterinary team has been working tirelessly to render lifesaving aid and thus far has made significant progress. Sadly, it has been determined that Hector will need to have his right rear leg amputated due to the extensive damage, including ligaments and bones exposed. Thankfully, the situation with his lung has significantly improved and his prognosis is very positive moving forward. With no doubts that he will be able to move on from this to enjoy a fulfilling life.

For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of knowing my father, Doug. He was permanently disabled in 1993 due to a traumatic brain injury and has since dedicated much of his time to helping others in any way that he can: volunteering at schools, his church, assisting elderly friends and neighbors and especially helping animals. Doug has a deep love for rescue animals and relies heavily on Hector, who is not just his dog but his closest companion.

As you can probably imagine the care administered thus far has come at a significant cost. Additionally, since turning 65 last month, Doug's disability income has ended, placing additional financial strain during this challenging time. He is currently working to liquidate his modest emergency savings and the family as well as some kind folks at the veterinary clinic are doing what they can and seeking any means of assistance available (Grants, student learning discounts etc.) Unfortunately, the ensued costs thus far as well as projected are quite high, with current estimates over $13,000. A figure which does not include follow-up visits or potential home support for Doug while Hector recovers.
