"13 year old Netball Champion breaks her arm midway through a State tournament but still gets crowned player of the tournament"
My 15 year old niece Courtney Castle has been selected to represent Australia in the Junior World Series under 16's Indoor Netball Team to play in Johannesburg, South Africa in July. The costs involved are not covered by her club and she is frantically trying to gain funding through various means. As you can imagine, at 15, it's a daunting task to travel internationally, so just as important, is the chance for her mum Kerri (my little sister) to travel with her.
Courtney has always been great at sports and excells at any game she plays. Whether trying to beat her older brothers at backyard footy (both also accomplished junior sports stars), or playing ping pong against her grandad, her competitive spirit is always pushing her to new heights. More importantly though is the fact that she doesn't let it go to her head, and is always gracious and a great sport.
Courtneys mum Kerri has always been there to support all 3 kids, and while working full time, would always ensure the kids make it to their training and game days. It is never strange to hear that Kerri has completed a full days work, and is still out at 10pm waiting for the kids training to finish. All the more reason for Kerri to get to South Africa also.
Any funds raised will pay for flights and accomodation, transfers, ground transport, players registration and tournament pack, contributions for the sports trainers, and tickets to the Opening and Closing ceremonies for Courtney and Kerri to take part in Representing this great country of ours.
Tournament details: World Indoor Netball Association (WINA) Junior World Series 2017
Playing at: Fourways Action Arena, Johannesburg. 9th - 15th July, 2017
Courtneys achievements to date:
-Started playing Netball at age 9
-Consistently selected in teams above her age group
-Represented NSW at Indoor Netball for the past 4 years
-Represented and Captained Liverpool for the past 4 years
-In 2014 whilst playing for NSW, she broke her arm half way through the tournament, and not only did she try to finish that game injured, she went on to be named "Player of the tournament"
-Was selected to attend Sth Western Sydney Academy of sport U16 whilst aged 14 and then again at age 15
-Was accepted above hundreds of girls to attend Westfields Sports High School
-She has a passion for sport and a desire to excel at Netball
There is no doubt in my mind that Courtney will be successful in the sports arena for many years to come and am confident that one day will be a household name in the Netball scene and hopefully one day representing our country in the Olympics.
Any assistance for this funding would be greatly appreciated and who knows, You could be planting the roots of our next Olympic champion
