Larry’s Journey

Donation protected
I have created this for my brother, Larry Hively II, and his family. Several of his coworkers, and even those who do not know him, heard of his work accident and have given money to show support. For those who may not know, I’ll try to tell the story.

Larry is a hard working, sarcastic, funny, lend-a-hand to anyone kind of guy. He’s always there for his family, especially his kids and grandkids, and anyone else who needs him.

On Tuesday, 4/18, I got the call from my dad saying Larry was being life flighted to St Elizabeth’s (Mercy) hospital. At the time we knew he was working off of Coffee School Rd (near where we grew up) and was found by a passer by. There are still some parts we aren’t 100% sure on, but thankfully the business nearby had security cameras. For his fellow co-workers, forgive me if I get terminology wrong..

He was on a ladder, followed all safety protocols, but when coming down the ladder, the one side came unhooked and he was thrown from the ladder. Sounds like it should only be a few broken bones.. I wish. Larry suffered severe head trauma, even with a hard hat. From what I’m hearing, he may have only been 10’ off the ground. I’m not sure how long he was on the ground before a Good Samaritan.. or perhaps an Angel.. saw him down, honked and when he didn’t move, he stopped to check on him and called 911.

The neurologist removed part of his skull to relieve pressure from the swelling of his brain and that’s about all they can do at this point. Now it’s up to Larry’s body to do the rest. We’re told that the damage is to the frontal lobe, some of the tissue is dead, it’s similar to someone who’s had a stroke. So now we wait. On Wednesday, 4/19, he was moving a bit, a tad combative (not surprised) and even gave a squeeze or two. He is responsive to pain and pupils respond.. all good signs. Currently he’s still intubated, sedated, getting pain meds and now antibiotic as they are checking for pneumonia.

My brother is resilient, stubborn and determined.. he has survived a motorcycle accident that left him broken in the SICU, battled COVID in the ICU and now he will overcome this.

From all of us - we thank everyone - from his work family, friends and to those who don’t know him, for thinking of him and the family. We only ask for prayers, positive vibes and good juju. Thank you for your love and support. #HivelyStrong
