JD Outfitters Fire Disaster Assistance
After managing to survive through 2020 and the COVID lock down, JD Outfitters was so happy to see some restoration to normal activities in 2021. It looked like it was going to be a great season at Sun Mountain Lodge for Red (Debra Schrock) and her horses. Unfortunately, the catastrophic Cedar Creek fire had other plans. Red had to evacuate all of her horses from Sun Mountain on July 20th and find pastures that were safe places for the horses to be and to help cut down on their feed costs. She was so thankful for the people that opened their irrigated pastures during evacuation and helped trailer the horses to safety. This fire happened at the height of the busy season for the riding program and they will lose at least 6 weeks of business which is a major obstacle to overcome for a seasonal business. Two years of devastating business losses are just too much and while Red is not used to asking for help, it may be needed to be able to keep the JD horse program afloat. We know so many people have enjoyed this wonderful program and truly love Red and her horses. If you are able to help it would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime we continue to look for financial resources to assist Red so she can maintain the same level of care for her herd. She currently has 46 horses, and is making some tough decisions on how to reduce the herd so her program has a better chance of making it through this difficult time. They are hoping to resume some trail riding this fall and will keep people posted on an opening date. We thank you for your time in visiting this page and send well wishes your way.
