Hey everyone- as you know, Dad has been back and forth between Mayo hospital and home since January. He has been fighting what we thought was diverticulitis for the past 10 years, and the last 2 have been detrimental. Last fall, it had gotten so bad and painful he couldn't sleep, work, or function without pain and uncontrollable bowel movements. January 2020 it all came to a head. He was so sick he could barely get out of bed. In March, he was in and out of the ER with GI infections, which ultimately ended in a catheter, as the trauma to his organs was essentially shutting down his urinary system as well. I can't express how awful it was seeing my Dad, my rock, in such pain- and having to help drain his catheter. From there, we went to doctors in Minot and Williston for weeks- nothing seemed to help. I had called Mayo and due to COVID, the earliest they could see him was July 14th. JULY. I had to sit and watch my Dad suffer fo another 4 months!? I called every day asking if we can get him in early, and I vividly remember that day in May when they finally said "Can you get him here by Wednesday?" I bawled tears of relief. Dad was finally going to get better! But, God seems to give his hardest battles to the ones he knows can handle them- he must think we are pretty tough cookies. We got to Mayo and found out Dad has Crohns. We felt relieved it wasn't "the C word" as Dad said to me sitting in the surgeon's office. He lost his mother to colon cancer when he was 18. He went through multiple procedures to drain abscesses and add cetons to assist the draining.  Things were looking up! He got sent home, and our luck turned. His abscesses worsened, got infected, and he ended back up in Mayo. It seems the past few months the cycle continued as such: go to Mayo, get better, go home, get infected, go back to Mayo, repeat. This last time, Dad ended up collapsing and being taken by ambulance to the Williston ER, and flown to Mayo. I can't remember the exact time line but this would be the second time he's had an ER visit that ended in a flight to Mayo. As you can imagine, COVID has hit the catering industry hard, and the loss of his best friend and business partner has made catering even harder during this time. With minimal income, we are not too proud to ask for help. God is so good, and the Mayo doctors and nurses are nothing short of angels. We have been blessed with friends and family helping to clean the house, cook, and assist in getting things done so far! Between surgeries, ground and air ambulance rides, hotels, gas and food things are adding up.
Anything helps at this point.
Thank you for your prayers and continued support!
