Help an Incarcerated Trans Woman Pay for College
Donation protected
~~Anastasia has been a long-time advocate for trans women in prison & is currently surviving the COVID-19 outbreak at CIM. She is trying to pursue her long-term dream of completing her Bachelor's degree - any amount will help her take correspondence classes as she finishes her time inside. This campaign is being organized by members of Flying Over Walls and all funds raised will go directly to her tuition costs (specifically, myself - Dorsey Bass will withdraw funds raised to my personal account, and spend this money directly on tuition fees, books, and school supplies. I am tracking all funds and expenses and speak to Anastasia at least weekly to coordinate this. Feel free to email with any questions about distribution of funds/accountability). You can also donate directly via venmo (@Dorsey-Bass) or paypal ([email redacted]) with "Anastasia" or "Stacey" in the memo line. Read more from her below~~
My name is Anastasia Franco and I am seeking tuition assistance, in any amount, to complete my Bachelor's degree at Adams State University.
I am a 49 year old incarcerated transwoman of diverse heritage. I have been incarcerated for 15 years with an anticipated release date of April 2023. I am an active member of the incarcerated leadership teams for TGIJP (Transgender, Gender-variant & Intersex Justice Project) in San Francisco, and Flying Over Walls, the SF Bay Area chapter of Black & Pink. In prison, I am on the steering committee for Supporting Transgender Sisterhood, a transgender support group, as well as one of the Inmate Advisory Council's LGBTQ representative for my facility. As a peer-educator, I have taught Fast Track General Equivalency Diploma programs at two facilities, taught intermediate and college algebra, tutored peers in various academic subjects, and helped new students develop course plans for their college degrees.
In 2015 I earned my vocational paralegal certificate through Stratford Career Institute and helped numerous fellow inmates with legal assistance in civil rights cases, some criminal, and many Parole Board cases. In the Spring of 2018, I earned my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Coastline Community College. In completing the Spring 2020 semester, I will have earned an Associates of Sciences in General Business, and completed 103 credits through Coastline Community and Palo Verde College with anticipated GPAs of 3.2 and 4.0 respectively.
I have just about earned all available community college courses available to me. I have been accepted to Adams State University as a degree seeking student in Fall 2020. I believe I present a proven academic track record, and desperately want to complete my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Legal Studies. This will allow me to earn my CLA or RP certification upon release, and continue to help those in my LGBTQ community to navigate and seek structured change through the law.
Thank you for your time, and any help you can provide.
Sincerely,
Anastasia
