I’m Badger Embrey and I am raising money for my spouse and I. In November of 2023 my spouse, J.C. Vera was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer that had spread to his liver and lungs. His early prognosis jarred us. He wasn’t given long to live. It was a tough pill to swallow. I had a breakdown and left my position at the University in a moment of desperation in April of 2024. He is my world. I couldn’t fathom the idea of losing him. I have a hard time, anytime he is sick.
Soon after, I fell off the back of a ladder in our home and broke bones in two legs. I used money from a small retirement account for several months to help get us by. The past several months, I’ve been actively searching for work. So far, no luck, but I am optimistic. Working is a necessity.
J.C. has had over 30 chemo treatments. Our medical bills and monthly bills are piling up. A few of our family members and friends have helped, but we are in danger of having to move if we don’t secure funds quickly. We will either need funds to catch up our bills and back rent, or for first and last month rent someplace else.
We are so used to doing everything on our own, so this experience has been humbling. We are grateful JCs prognosis was wrong, and that he is in remission. Anytime, it is Stage Four you simply don’t know when or if it will come back. Anything you can spare would be helpful right now. Please spread the word. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
