4H KYG Club Trip to Olympia
Donation protected
Our 4-H club is raising money to attend the Know Your Government conference in Olympia, WA in February. We hope to raise at least $5500 by mid January to cover expenses for thirteen teens and two adult chaperones. Every county in the state will be represented at the conference which is put on by Washington State University Extension. Our club is from Jefferson County, located in western Washington on the Olympic Peninsula near Puget Sound.
Funds raised beyond our goal will be given to the Jefferson County 4-H Council for future KYG trips, service projects, and other club events.
The theme of this year's conference is “Politics and the Media” with a focus on using digital and social media responsibly. Students will work together in groups and task forces, networking, researching, and solving problems that pertain to the conference theme. In our own words, here are some reasons we'd like you to help us reach our financial goal:
“The KYG conference is very useful and important. All teens involved become immersed in an environment that teaches the ins-and-outs of government and its laws, which is VERY important for our generation. Granting us the ability to attend will allow for an event that is not only informative, but an overall fun and great social experience.” ~ Daniel, 17
“I am really interested in the media and how it effects our economy and the people. If you fund us, then each of us will be able to continue to expand ourselves and our knowledge of government.” ~ Stephanie, 14
“KYG is a great opportunity for youth in Washington to learn about the processes that contribute to making government work. Not only does it teach students, but it also brings them together with other teens from all over the state. It is a chance to learn with old friends and make new ones.” ~ Atlas, 16
“KYG encourages me to grow as a person. It gives me an opportunity to learn about things that aren't taught in school – things that are very important to learn before becoming a voter.” ~ Sam, 17
“It will help me prepare for the future by giving me a better understanding of my government. It is important for us to learn about government at this age so when we get old enough, we have an understanding of what's going on and can make intelligent choices.” ~ Forrest, 15
“I want to participate in 4-H Know Your Government because it is a fun and educational experience. It provides the opportunity to meet new friends and hang out with old ones while learning how the infrastructure of our country works.” ~ Zara, 15
“KYG gives students the opportunity to learn about government in a very different way than most programs. Besides the fact that it involves a very large amount of learning, it also incorporates a lot of social time. I’m looking forward to the experience.” ~ Aidan, 14
“This program helps students learn to speak in front of people and teaches about our government.” ~ Vanessa, 15
“I enjoy KYG is because It requires careful planning. It also teaches me about my government and how I can best make a difference. KYG helps me prep for life outside and beyond school by giving me abilities applicable in the real world.” ~ Tiburcio, 15
“I really want to attend the conference because I don't really know about the media and would like to learn how it relates to politics.” ~ Sarah, 14
“Being in KYG is beneficial because I will learn about how our government works, public speaking skills, and people skills.” ~ Thierry, 17
“I think it will be a good educational experience. There will be a lot of work that comes along with this commitment, and I am prepared to get done.” ~ Ryan, 14
