We are a group of high-school students from Atlanta GA with close ties to Turkiye and we have been deeply impacted by the recent earthquake that has caused widespread devastation and loss. Our families and friends in Turkiye have been affected and we feel a strong urge to do something to help. We aim to provide much-needed support to those affected by the disaster.
On February 6th, 2023, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck Southeast Turkiye. A second earthquake followed, with a magnitude of 7.6, hours after. These are the worst earthquakes in Turkiye in almost 100 years.
Thousands of buildings have been destroyed, and thousands more suffered severe damage as aftershocks still continue to strike the country.
As of February 10th, 2023, the death toll passed 21,000 and over 80,000 were injured. The toll is increasing every hour as rescue operations continue in freezing cold conditions.
Turkiye has declared a level four state of emergency, urging international help. Come together in support of those affected by the earthquake. Every contribution, no matter the size, can bring hope to those in need.
Distribution of the funds will be handled by our parents and the funds will be directly distributed by AHBAP Foundation - a trustworthy and effective NGO in Turkiye.
