My poor ginger boy, my first cat, my smooshy man needs surgery following a urinary blockage.

Last night, Rob and I took Cider to the ER. I found him hiding under my bed, wet like he had an accident, and he howled whenever I touched him. He wouldn't eat or drink, and he just wanted to hide. I initially thought his leg was injured as he seemed hesitant to put full weight on one of his back legs.

We ended up being in the ER for 6 hours. They observed him for some time and didn't see him limping. They did notice his bladder was very full, and he was very spicy when they tried to examine his abdomen. They gave us the option of going home with some pain meds and just watching him.

I'm really glad we listened to our guts and opted to have him sedated so they could try and express his bladder. That's when we learned his bladder was completely blocked. I spoke with my regular vet today, and they told me I likely saved Cider's life. Urinary blockages are life-threatening.

They ended up putting a catheter in him to release his bladder. When we left at 12:30 AM, the expected plan was to keep the catheter in for 24 hours, and then keep him under observation until they confirm he can express his bladder.

This morning, that plan went out the window. They discovered he has a rare infection, emphysematous cystitis. It's causing gas to build up in his bladder. They also found several large bladder stones. Treatment requires surgery.

The bills are stacking up. My wonderful mother stepped in to cover the deposit, but I want to pay her back as soon as possible. To help with this and the remaining bills, I'm starting this GoFundMe.
