Hi, our names are Kayla & Brandon. We started this gofundme for my boy Benjamin who is 2 years old. On October 17th around 4:00pm he was laying on the floor napping and out of no where started crying.. this crying sound was a sound we’ve never heard before.. he was asking us to help him up, as if his back legs weren’t working anymore. Right away we then realized he wasn’t just whining for attention.. he really couldn’t get up. We took him to the emergency vet hospital at Bristol Circle in Mississauga. 4 hours later and some X-rays, the vet had told us that there was decreased femoral coverage by the acetabulum. In English that pretty much means hip dysplasia.. no evidence of a fracture or other bone abnormalities. They sent us home with Gabapentin (which is a painkiller) and told us he needed extreme rest. It is now the next day, October 18th and he is still in excruciating pain, restless and unable to sleep. The last time he had a bowel movement was right before he was admitted on October 17th at 4:00pm. Our concern now is not only the fact that he’s unable to walk or stand, but it’s the fact that he physically cannot get into a position to pee or poo.. which could lead to a number of problems. ie, uti, bladder infection & kidney problems. I am asking for your help in our next step, which would be to see a Neurologist. The vet suggested that if the pain/situation got worse we should get an MRI plus other procedures done. The cost of our initial visit was $670.44, that included X-rays, emergency fee, examination & painkillers. Our next visit to the Neurologist will cost us upwards of $3000 which is when they will perform an MRI & other procedures to find out the underlying issue in hopes that he doesn’t need surgery.. it breaks our hearts to see Benjamin in so much pain & suffering. We just want to be able to see the Neurologist and get the necessary procedures done to relieve him of his pain.
