Hi Friends and Family!
If you know me, then you know my passion for Jazz. My commitment to music has only deepened since I joined the Berkeley High School (BHS) Jazz program where I play bass in the premier Jazz band (aka the Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble). I have devoted countless hours to rigorous practice, lessons, and playing with Jazz combos in and out of school as well as with the California Jazz Conservatory, all while maintaining high academic performance.
After playing with the BHS Jazz band for the last 4 years, my hard work and dedication have paid off. I finally have the opportunity to go on an international educational exchange trip with BHS Jazz to study at a world-renowned music institute.
The trip takes place this coming January during the International Jazz Fest. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to listen, learn from, and play with some of the best Jazz musicians in the world. It is also a cultural exchange. This program will allow me to engage with jazz students who share the same deep love and enthusiasm for music that I do. We will have an opportunity to visit a number of places throughout the country that are incredibly different from anywhere in the US. We will also support these communities with resources such as medical supplies, school supplies, and musical instruments from the United States.
The total cost is estimated to be $8,000 and will be used to cover expenses for myself and one chaperone for 8 days and 7 nights. Specifically, this includes costs for visas, airfare, lodging, and meals. Funds also go toward cultural exchange events and tour guides. I have been working and playing gigs to help pay for this trip but any contributions to support my trip would be most welcome and greatly appreciated.
Your love and support means everything to me. Thanks so much!!
Love, Jonah
