Chris is a serving Metropolitan Police Officer of 21 years. Jazz is Civilian Staff for Kent Police. They have a young son Joshua who is 3 years old. In August 2021, when Jazz was 8 months pregnant, Chris had a serious collision while at work in his role as an advanced driver on a Pro-Active unit utilising plain clothes and un-marked cars. After turning round to try and keep observations on a suspected stolen vehicle on false plates and while using his speed exemptions a member of the public pulled out from a give way resulting in a collision. After a few weeks off work Chris was able to return to work and was told he could resume full duties as he was not suspected of being at fault for the collision and even received an email from Traffic Criminal justice asking for a witness statement. Joshua was born at the end of September 2021 and after a month off Chris returned to work at the end of October 2021. Upon walking back into work Chris was informed he was being investigated for causing serious injury by Dangerous Driving and served with Gross Misconduct papers. Fast forward to start of April 2023 and upon turning up to work for an early turn, Chris was informed by his Line Manager that DPS would be at the station shortly to charge him with the above offence. Chris was given a magistrates court date for end of April 2023. Chris then faced numerous challenges including his initial barrister advising him to plead guilty, federation threatening to not fund his new barrister who was supportive and initially being sent to the local crown court to where he had policed for 20 years. Eventually however he was given a crown court date of July 2024. Three weeks before the start of Chris trial, Jazz, his partner found a lump in her breast. Jazz was immediately referred by her doctors to the hospital and then had an Ultrasound-Sound and a Biopsy. While waiting for the results of these tests Chris’ trial began at Kingston Crown Court. While the jury were deliberating Jazz received a call (Monday) to say her results were in and she needed to attend on Wednesday to discuss her results. Later that day Chris was found not guilty of causing serious injury by Dangerous Driving but guilty of Careless Driving and bailed to come back on the Thursday morning for sentencing. On the Wednesday, Jazz and Chris received the devastating news that Jazz had an aggressive form of Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. It turned out the tumour had already grown from 25mm in size to 37mm since the first test and a second tumour had also been discovered in the same breast. Jazz was told she was to undergo a minimum of a years worth of gruelling treatment starting with 6 months worth of intensive Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy to start asap. The next morning and still reeling with the previous nights diagnosis, Chris and Jazz were back at Crown Court where Chris was given a £1600 fine and 7 points on his personal licence. This all after 15 months of Chris being on restricted duties and unable to earn overtime. Jazz finished her Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy at the end of January 2025. She underwent surgery on the 4th March 2025 to remove both Tumor sites along with Lymph nodes from under her right arm for testing. Jazz and Chris are now anxiously awaiting the results from these tests before knowing the next stage of treatment. Trojan Wellbeing have been supporting Jazz and Chris throughout the entirety of their devastating circumstances and would love to be able to send them and Joshua on a much needed respite vacation as soon as Jazz is able to travel.
