UPDATE: Brooklyn Defenders set up a page this morning here . I'm in touch with @ScottHech closely to get these funds to Jazmine and her family. Today is incredibly busy with the press and recent petition to the judge to release here. Their team asked that people go through their new page for future funds so please go to Brooklyn Defender's page for any new fundraising. On Friday, December 7, 2018 Jazmine Headley went to a welfare office to get childcare vouchers so she could take a cleaning job. With no available chairs, she sat on the floor with her 1yr old. She was told to stand, refused. Then police came, yanked child away, pointed a taser at the crowd and arrested her. She's been held in jail since Friday without bail and is being represented by a non profit. This fund is to aid her in the troubles that brought her to this disrespectful agency in the first place and to help with legal and child care issues arising from this unjustifiable arrest.
I am am in touch with Jazmine’s law firm @brklyndefender through @ScottHech to get this to her mother so that they can withdraw these funds to help her get the care she needed for her son, which is why she was in line, and make up for the time out of work. And perhaps help them get the funds they need to make it for a few months without having to go back to this place. Hopefully she is released ASAP and NJ drops the minor warrant. This is not a person who is a threat to society, instead it’s a mother trying her hardest to survive. Every minute she is in jail is another minute she cannot work to earn money for her and her son.
About me: I’m a mom who is tired of seeing mothers struggle in the US trying to balance care for their children and keeping work - which has been impossible for anyone who doesn’t have thousands to spend on child care.
