Last Wednesday, Carissa brought Jay to the hospital because he was not feeling well. Shortly after, he suffered Cardiogenic Shock episode brought on by a congenital heart condition called Aortic Stenosis that Jay has suffered from since birth. As a result, his organs went into shock and he was subsequently put into a medically-induced coma and hooked up to an ECMO machine to sustain his life until he might be well enough for the life-saving valve replacement surgery he desperately needs. He has since been transported to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at UCSF where he is being treated by some of the best cardiac doctors in the country.

At this point, Jay’s future is still uncertain. We don’t know how long it will take him to be well enough to survive the surgery, or how long or extensive his rehab will be following the surgery, or if he will even survive. We have had some promising news lately, but it’s still really uncertain at this point. All we know is that Jay is currently in critical condition 120 miles away, in one of the most expensive cities in America.

We really don’t know what Carissa or Jay’s needs will be in the future, but we do know that right now Jay needs his family close so he can have all the support he needs to survive. We are starting this campaign at $10,000 hoping that we can at least cover travel, food and logging expenses for the unforeseeable future so Carissa and the family can be close while he is in UCSF. If there any money left, it will go to any residual expenses incurred due to Jays hospitalization (medical deductibles, out-of-pocket expenses, rehab expenses, potential home modifications, etc).
