Jayme Bates Legacy Scholarship Fund

This fund will establish a memorial scholarship to honor the life and legacy of Jayme Bates.
On March 18, 2021, Jayme passed away due to a previously undiagnosed heart condition. He was only thirty-three. This sudden loss has been devastating, but, if Jayme taught us anything, it is how to pull hope from the depths of despair and the importance of shining light into a world that seems overcome by darkness.
It is our wish to continue Jayme’s legacy and help others just as he did. The Jayme Bates Legacy Scholarship will provide annual scholarships to students attending Hudson Valley Community College - a place where Jayme attended school and loved coaching.
It will give preference to young people in financial need and those, like Jayme, who provide service to their communities.
Celebrating Jayme's Life
Jayme’s competitive spirit made him an amazing athlete, but he found his true calling as a coach, helping others achieve their potential and their dreams. He followed this passion unabashedly, without hesitancy or apology.
He saw infinite possibility in the world, and he passed on that optimism to the young people he worked with through CYO basketball, the Troy Cougars, and Boys Modified Basketball at Tamarac. He also used it to motivate his college athletes all the way to Division III Junior championships.
Jayme was a masterful coach because he saw his players as full people and invested in their overall success. If they struggled with schoolwork, Jayme found a tutor. If they needed a ride to practice, he became a taxi. Couldn't figure out a FASFA form? Jayme was on the phone with the financial aid office.
That willingness to listen, engage and help is what made him just as inspirational to his friends and family as he was to the players he coached.
Ensuring Jayme's Legacy
If we reach $26,000, the Jayme Bates Legacy Scholarship will become an endowed scholarship! This means that can provide scholarships to students for decades to come. This is our truest desire - to ensure that Jayme's legacy lives on.
Our family has been able to pull together the majority of this money! We hope and pray that our amazing community of Jayme's friends and family will help us pull together the rest!
