Jaylene Needs Your Help for Flora

Hi everyone! This is a fundraiser for a sweet kitty and her wonderful human. Flora was a community cat for many years, living outside an elementary school. She was scared, skinny, and having litter after litter. I trapped her for TNR, and at the time she was 1.5 years old, weighed 5 lbs, and had a litter of newborns we never found.

Jaylene took over the care for this colony, making sure they were all spayed, neutered, vaccinated, fed, watered, and happy. They began to thrive, with Flora as their leader. She became friendly over time, especially with Jaylene, and started going into the school. We brought her inside, and she blossomed into the perfect house cat! She has officially been retired from the street cat life for just over a year and loves her life with Jaylene.

Yesterday, Flora started vomiting. Jaylene monitored her, but when it didn't stop, she decided to take her to the emergency vet. There, bloodwork showed that somehow Flora is in kidney failure. Jaylene has no clue how this happened, having just had bloodwork done for sweet Flora last month! The emergency doctors did all they could, but Flora was not making much progress. At this point, it would have been typical to discuss humane euthanasia, but Flora has been looking bright, alert, and her bloodwork just hasn't shown us that this is the right choice. The emergency doctor called and found a vet who can do a dialysis treatment. This is 2 hours from home and very expensive, but because Flora shows no sign of giving up, neither is Jaylene. The ER doctor assured Flora was stable enough for the drive, and off they went.

Jaylene had to put down $10,000 on top of the emergency fees she had already paid. In addition, she has to stay in a hotel close to the vet office for at least one night.
