Jaylan is 12 years old and just began the 7th grade to find out he is fighting Terminal Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Because of his treatment being stopped, his cancer has spread 10-fold. His tumor markers went from 800 to 2500 in the matter of one month. Please see the tumor marker picture in his collage.
In the summer of 2020, Jaylan began to have extreme pain in his stomach. The first three times that I took him to the hospital, he was told that he had constipation and was sent home with a prescription for MiraLAX. After several emergency room trips, with no relief or resolution, he was finally able to get some answers as to why the pain would not subside. The doctors finally examined him and conducted a full colonoscopy/endoscopy. Once this procedure was completed, I was told by the doctors that they were 90% sure he had Chron’s Disease, they found a tumor the size of a lemon in his intestines. He then had surgery to remove the tumor, but the doctors neglected to scan his body for more tumors. A biopsy was done on his tumor, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Germ Cell Cancer on September 17, 2020, but this was not all. After more studies were done, we were then called in on October 2, 2020, and told that he had Stage 4 Colon Cancer and it had spread to his liver, stomach, and lungs. The doctors then decided that the best approach for his cancer was to remove the tumor from his stomach before any chemo or radiation was done. By the time the doctors began his chemotherapy, October 17, 2020, the cancer had already doubled in size. In December, we were told by the oncologist that his survival rate was “Slim to None.”
Jaylan Green was born February 4, 2009, to Nikki Lewis in Houston, Texas. He is the second of three children, two sisters, Kapri, 14 and Evie, 2. Jaylan is the son of a single mother; his father is not active in his life. Most of my family lives in Oregon, so I do not have much of a support system here in Houston. My father died of Colon Cancer in 2008, so unfortunately, we have fought this battle before but now this battle is with my child. Jaylan has always been very tough and active. He loves basketball, swimming, riding four-wheelers, go-karts, and spending time with his family. Jaylan is the comedian of the family, he calls himself “The Kid Kevin Hart.” Jaylan loves cooking and helping in the kitchen. His favorite rappers are Slim Thug, Megan Thee Stallion, Trae the Truth, NLE Choppa, and NBA YoungBoy. Jaylan loves watching and making Mukbangs eating seafood, especially shellfish. Jaylan is a big gamer but has not been able to game as much lately due to his illness. Now, he only has so much energy so most of his time is spent in bed trying to rest through the pain.
We were told in April of 2021 that Jaylan’s cancer is now terminal, and his treatment was completely stopped. His cancer has now spread to his brain, bones, neck, blood vessels, and 40 new nodules on his lungs. He has lost 12 pounds in the last month, he now weighs 101 pounds. I was told that as time goes by, his lungs will be the first to collapse, due to the number of tumors in the area. Jaylan was unexpectedly told by doctors on August 10, 2021, that he has a life expectancy of approximately 2 months. At this time, Jaylan has been prescribed Morphine to help with the constant pain in his body, hoping to make him more comfortable. At his most recent appointment, the oncologist offered an experimental treatment to Jaylan that has no research behind it. He was told that it would make him extremely sick, he would lose his hair, but it may extend his life a couple more months. Jaylan and I decided against this treatment because we have seen this drug administered to other children with Colon Cancer and how it negatively affected them. In the last month, 4 children with Colon Cancer have lost their lives to this horrific disease. This new treatment that is being tested out is not helping extend the lives of these children, but it is shortening their lives. Jaylan and I want his last days to be peaceful and as comfortable as possible. Since August 10, Jaylan has been placed on hospice care at home pending any further changes he will be placed in the hospital. We want him to enjoy what time he has left with family and friends surrounding him.
Now that Jaylan knows his life expectancy, he has been thinking about the things that he wants to do before he passes away. His greatest desire is to meet someone famous before he passes away, he said it does not matter if it is a rapper, basketball player, or actor. He just wants to be noticed for one day before he passes. This is one of the most important things that he wants, he talks about this everyday with his sister Kapri.

The proceeds of this fundraiser will go toward funeral, burial, and bereavement for Jaylan and his family. His funeral has been organized with Paradise Funeral Home and Paradise Cemetery North. The approximate total cost for the arrangements is $25,000, including his funeral, burial and plot, and headstone. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to help his mother and family that he will leave behind. The cost will go toward counseling services for his mother and sisters, housing for their recovery period, and the necessities of life as they go through these trying times. We ask that when you read this, you put yourself in our shoes. Anything that you can donate will most definitely help. We ask that you help us share Jaylan’s story.
