Jayla Halling Aplastic Anemia Warrior
Donation protected
Once a vibrant teenager who loved to be on stage, to dance and sing; to hangout with her friends, cuddle with her dogs, tease her brothers; Jayla now spends most days in bed or in the hospital. While the journey to her diagnosis of Severe Aplastic Anemia has been an uphill battle for both Jayla and her family, they can finally move forward with treatment that can improve her quality of life and offer her the stability that every teenager deserves. Despite its name, aplastic anemia, or bone marrow failure, is more than anemia. Aplastic anemia is a rare but serious blood condition that occurs when your bone marrow cannot make enough new blood cells for your body to work normally.
Jayla needs a bone marrow transplant. Both of her brothers are a 100% match, defying the odds. As of June 3, Jayla has received 5 red blood cell transfusions and 2 platelet transfusions. She is now in Miami for care before her bone marrow transplant, which is 3 ½ hrs away from her home. With this procedure we hope Jayla can have a better quality of life, but first it means months of isolation as her immune system recovers.
As you can imagine, this illness has had a toll on the Halling family. Many of Jayla’s hospital stays have been out of town, with travel expenses on top of medical bills as well as time away from work and much needed help with their other two children and pets. To add to the stress their home was greatly damaged by Hurricane Ian in September 2022 which led to an ongoing battle with insurance to cover the damages. Chantelle’s grandmother also passed in Feb, leaving the family heartbroken in the middle of everything else. They were all very close and lived next door to each other.
Your donations and shares of this fundraiser mean the world to the Hallings. Thank you and much love to you all.
