UPDATE:
My mom’s experience has been quite the ride, but it is certainly not over! My mom did receive full funding for a new heart, but after various tests, it was determined she was ineligible to receive one. However, she was given an alternate option of an LVAD, which is now fully funded as well!
With that said, this journey has created quite the financial strain on my mom and stepfather, Mike. Mike has spent every single day, multiple hours, sitting with my mom at the hospital. To support his wife means he has had to take time away from work and/or limit his hours extremely. Unfortunately, he does not have a job in which he can take FMLA or paid leave.
Please, if you can, help my family through these struggles, as they have more than enough to stress about.
As many of you know, my mom has dilated cardiomyopathy. Several months ago, she found out she will need a heart transplant. Shortly after that, insurance offered to solely cover half of the life-saving surgery she needs.
As you can imagine, heart transplants are extremely expensive surgeries. Thanks to this, they will not admit Jaye to the heart transplant list until she can cover the funds for the $1.3 million surgery (meaning she must be able to pay close to $700k before she can be put on the list!). And while this would stress any normal person out, naturally, it surely has caused more issues for her as a heart patient!
There are several qualifications Jaye will need to meet prior to receiving a new heart. A big part of this is a clean bill of health on her liver and kidneys, that will change the longer she stays on the medicine to keep her heart going until surgery. Unfortunately for us, this means time is of the essence.
So please, if you are able and willing, please consider helping our cause. Our two sweet boys are counting on having their Mamaw around!
Thank you all, now let’s get Jaye a new heart!
