On Monday March 11th Jaydyn got the distressing call that his fathers decline in health was fast approaching. His fathers doctors had switched meds causing a fungal infection in his lungs but due to complicated circumstances the meds for the infection held off. Upon another CT scan the cancer had spread to his brain. At this time, Jaydyn went to the island to be with his father and family.
On March 13th after spending 3 days in hospital in the emergency room in a tiny solarium of a private room, as the hospital was 170 over capacity forcing people to be in gurneys in the halls. His dad succumbed to the tumors finally making it into palliative for his final hours before his passing at 7:45pm.
On March 15th Jaydyn returned to work with what he thought was just a simple eye irritation due to contact lenses but continued to work through the pain. Later on he went to urgent care as the irritation was unbearable to discover intense pain and loss of vision.
After numerous tests and prescriptions he had a negative reaction to painkillers and was unable to return to work due to this reaction. After an appointment at Nanaimo Eye Care Centre, the ophthalmologist expressed deep concern. The specialist then wrote a letter to expedite his condition through the emergency room in Vancouver as he was worried about the loss of his vision and eye.
Jaydyn then returned to Vancouver and paid for antibiotics as prescribed by doctors and specialists which would be deemed useless by the eye care center in Vancouver after being rushed through ER the following day. Rushed to the ophthalmologist in Vancouver discovering finally it’s not just an infection but also an ulcer on his cornea which is why his vision is gone and it’s severe and again concerning. Buying antibiotics with no real income coming in has added up to hundreds of dollars.
The trauma of my dads passing and this added into the equation has made him take an extended leave from work, and unable to make rent and pay bills. Thanks to the support of his family during this tumultuous time he has been able to pay for these bills, but his mental and physical health has taken a toll throughout these numerous doctors appointments and specialists having been poked and prodded in the eye, and not having time to process his grief has been excruciating.
Today; about to start week 2 on his second round of painkillers and drugs and slight improvements with vision - he still cannot work . Tomorrow will be the second appointment with a cornea specialist. If this infection doesn’t heal it could quickly result in permanent damage and loss of vision.
From Jaydyn: Just looking for a leg up and support if possible from my friends and community to raise rent money for April plus little more for food etc, possibly new glasses as contacts might not be possible post this issue. I’ve never never thought I’d be in the spot and it seems so much harder now with my father gone . Goal 1350 dollars to help carry me through the month
