Jayden Giving's Diaphragmatic Hernia Repair
Donation protected
Jayden was born October 2nd, 2011 to Dale Giving and Leigha Huffman with a condition known as, a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. The diaphragm is the thin sheet of muscle separating the chest from the abdomen. With the diaphragmatic hernia, there is a hole in the diaphragm, which allows for abdominal organs (such as intestines, stomach, and liver) to move through the hole and into the chest cavity. Jayden's hernia was initially repaired when she was just one week old; after a long and rocky 3 ½ months in the hospital, her family was elated to finally bring sweet baby, Jayden, home.
Near 2020’s end, Jayden began complaining of an inability to take full, satisfying breaths. An imaging appointment for a CT scan was the first step to reveal the causative factor. On February 10th, 2021 family was notified that Jayden’s mesh diaphragm patch had failed, her diaphragm re-herniated. Currently Jayden’s stomach is displaced to her left lung cavity. Jayden is scheduled to undergo surgery on March 23rd, 2021 at The University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital; she is expected to be in the hospital for a minimum of one week for recovery.
In addition, CT imaging revealed a Cyst near Jayden’s mid-sternum; the cyst will require surgical intervention. Unfortunately, the cyst removal and hernia repair are unable to be completed in synchronicity with each other; therefore, upon full recovery from hernia repair Jayden will have a second operation for cyst removal.
As if that weren’t enough for sweet and spunky Jayden, she was also diagnosed with Scoliosis, which will be managed by therapies and will include a back brace in which Jayden will wear nightly throughout her growing years.
All proceeds will go directly to Jayden's parents and will be used toward medical & travel expenses. Feel free to leave some love for Jayden in the comments. Updates will be posted after the procedure.
