Jayce Caryl Bouwens

Jayce came into our lives on 09/21/2023 at 6:08am at my daughters home in Bismarck, ND. I thankfully was visiting Hayli at her home when Jayce decided it was time to come into the world. I delivered him fully in the amniotic sac (En Caul) at Hayli’s home when he was just 35 weeks gestation. From start to finish he was delivered in just 23 mins and was born weighing 5lbs 3oz. He is a preemie baby and has a heart condition called Hypoplatic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Jayce has a long journey ahead of him with multiple surgeries and procedures to fix his heart.

Jayce and Hayli (my daughter) were life flighted to St. Mary’s Mayo in Rochester, MN from St. Alexis Hospital in Bismarck, ND on 9/25/23. We have been here at Mayo ever since and we will be here for several months as he grows and strengthens to receive the life saving procedures and surgeries he needs to live.

Baby Jayce in the first 3 weeks of life has already undergone 8 surgeries and is currently on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine to keep him alive while his body grows and gets stronger. At which time he will under go a Comprehensive 2 (Norwood/ Glenn) heart surgery when he reaches 3-4 months of age. Then around 3-5 years of age he will need to have another surgery (Fontan).

We would greatly appreciate any help we can get to alleviate the financial burden of these medical expenses and time away from work.

We are also in need of prayers for the family to stay strong and healthy to support baby Jayce on this journey to save his life❤️

We are so thankful and blessed to be housed at The Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) in Rochester, MN. We could not imagine what we’d do if this wasn’t offered to us while we fight to save baby Jayce.
