Austin’s own amazing and talented Jay Byrd needs our help! On Thursday June 23rd he was in a freak bicycle accident (that’s freak in a bad way, not in a good way). He hit a pothole and flew over his handlebars and onto the pavement taking the brunt of the landing right on the chin. His jaw is broken in three places and he picked his two (edit: four!) front teeth up off the pavement and carried them in the car with him to the emergency room. Right now he’s still in the hospital hanging in there like a trooper while they try to keep him comfortable and get him ready for surgery.
He’s going to recover and entertain us all once again but he needs our help to do it! He’s having reconstructive surgery on Monday to put his jaw back together and after that he’ll need some new front teeth implanted. He’ll likely be taking a break from work while he recovers a bit and since his jaw will be wired shut I’m sure he’ll need Vegamatic 2000 of some sort and other supplies to help get him healthy and healing.
Whether you know him from his solo show Naked as a Gaybird (one of his many performances at Salvage Vanguard Theater), Bedpost Confessions, or back in the day in Y’all his 90s NYC country folk duo, Jay has given his art (and his heart) to all of us, let’s help take care of him now and make money the lesser of his worries as he gets on the road to recovery.
