Family! I'm going to Cuba!
I've been invited to be part of a 14-person Bay Area
delegation to Cuba where we will be meeting with various sectors of Cuban society. Our trip will include exchanges with cultural and health workers, educators and students, and labor and women's organizations.
My particular goal for this trip is to gather stories about Cuban resiliency as it relates to the US Embargo, which has cut off essential food and medical supplies to the population.
By virtue of learning about the resiliency of Cuban people, I hope to unpack the mainstream demonization of Cuba---the rationale for the embargo and the U.S. listing of Cuba as a terrorist state--and see first-hand what it means to practice a participatory democracy as so many people returning from Cuba have described.
And I need your help! This trip is pretty expensive particularly for someone who has been a non-profit worker for his entire adult life. Even though I'm making it happen, I'll also add that it can be financially challenging to support a teenaged daughter and & a soon-to-be 'tween son in the Bay.
My monetary goal is to raise $2000. If you can support my learning and my long-term work towards liberation, I promise to give each person a hug and kiss. If I surpass my financial goal, I will use these funds to support other folks on the delegation who have less access to wealth.
Thank you in advance for any contribution you can make.
Peace, Jay
