Help the Friend Who’s a Help to Everyone!
Dear ones,
We are a group of friends who recently became aware of the struggle of an extraordinary man – a beautiful man with a beautiful family - going through an extraordinarily difficult time.
It’s easy to forget, our lives can change on a dime.
Jay Mastro is a husband, a dad, a friend to everyone who knows him. Jay is known throughout his community as the man who’ll show up for you when times get tough. He’s been there for so many of us in our time of need. He’s also the man to call when something breaks and needs to be repaired.
He’s a gifted Mr. Fix-it. Until recently he would go to his mother in law's senior complex and help the elderly with their broken appliances, electronics – and even repaired their cars – all free of charge! They think of him as their earth angel!
We do, too!
This wonderful husband and dad to three great kids has been diagnosed with Stage IV throat cancer – and we’re sorry to say that that is just the beginning of the nightmare that Jay and the Mastro family have been enduring.
The one-two punch no one anticipated…
It started several years ago, when the company Jay worked for the past 30 years, was suddenly sold and Jay was out of a job. That meant the whole family was out of health insurance, too. They had to purchase costly health insurance during his unemployment. It wasn’t long before Jay received the devastating diagnosis of throat cancer. The Mastro’s had been searching for treatment for Jay, and as he was about to begin more intensive treatment, his intestine became perforated due to the pain medications he had to take. After emergency surgery he rallied like the champ he is, and was looking forward to starting chemotherapy and other possible treatments.
The shocker no one saw coming…
Recently – the Mastro family learned that Jay is no longer eligible for Medicaid.
It was at that point that we realized this family needs help from our community.
The Mastro’s would NEVER ask for help themselves – but this is beyond what anyone can figure out
on their own. We need to pitch in!! In our inboxes and social media, we’re bombarded with crowd-funding requests day in and day out – and yes - we all want to help everyone.
But this is a situation that is dire – beyond what any family should have to endure!
A severe illness – AND the worry that treatment is being denied because of a lack of insurance – not just for Jay – but for THE ENTIRE FAMILY!
We can’t imagine the layers of worry the Mastro’s are experiencing – because this is affecting every aspect of their day to day lives. Their mortgage, one child still in college and one in high school, the expenses of just the everyday needs of a family of five – all impacted by this overwhelming crisis.
A dire situation – yes – but not one that is insurmountable! We can all rally around this family!!!
We have set up this GoFundMe Page to help the Mastro’s in their hour of deepest need.
The Mastro’s have been trying on their own for a long while – but now – it’s time for us to come together to show this man and his family that they are loved and supported!
