*UPDATE* Due to the cost of food in London and the need to balance meals to accompany medication, we need to increase the funding goal to £2000. This will also cover some other essential expenses including the cost of a new compression binder to aid recovery. Please do not feel in any way obliged to donate again. Sharing this page is also really helpful and appreciated.
Fundraiser organised by Amo on behalf of Jay.
All donations over the goal will go towards recovery costs, but after that, any surplus will be re-donated to GoFundMe campaigns of trans people of colour.
Hey, I’m Jay and in November I am finally getting top surgery, after four years on a waiting list.
I am a PhD student (in online transphobic hate) and since having long covid for the last eleven months, I am no longer able to work alongside my studies. So I am crowdfunding for travel and accommodation costs, to get from Cardiff to Wimbledon and stay there to recover for a few days after surgery.
Approx. cost is £1500, which covers a twin room, train travel and food costs as I won’t be able to cook. I am traveling down with a family member (their train fare is included), who will stay for the weekend and then my partner is coming down to be my carer and transport my luggage back. This amount also covers the cost of a visit to the hospital with an overnight stay on my own the week before, for a medical check up.
My brilliant friend lives in Wimbledon and is taking time off work to care for me immediately after the surgery, so I am staying there a week. I am obsessive compulsive and neurodivergent, so there are some specific needs I have which make a hotel stay and train travel the best options for me.
Thank you so much for reading this and my greatest thanks if you are able to donate. My partner is hosting this fund for me so that your donations are truly anonymous, if that is your preference. So I will know who has been able to chip in, but not by how much. I am really grateful for having surgery on the NHS and I can’t thank you enough for any amount you are able to contribute - including your good wishes and support.
P.S. Zippertits is a word that online transphobes use to describe depictions of post-surgery trans people and I have reclaimed it because I find it hilarious and accurate. There are infinite ways to be trans and I am really happy with my choices.
