Hello, my name is Jerome Ward, and I am the founder and sole proprietor of Jay Dubz BBQ, an American traditionalist home based catering business renowned throughout Silicon Valley and the greater Southern Bay Area. Although currently only a side business, I have a much larger aspiration to share my love for this quintessential genre of culinary Americana with a far broader audience. To those who share my passion for great food, it will come as no surprise that there exists an extreme scarcity of high quality BBQ in the Bay Area, a situation I fully intend to remedy.
My background in grilling experimentation, study, and tutelage extends more than 15 years into the past. This journey started in the fine state of Texas, the brisket capital of America, where my eyes were opened to endless flavor and aroma possibilities of finely grilled, seared, and smoked meats. I immediately wanted to learn how I could not only recreate these incredible dishes on my own but also branch out to create entirely new palettes, scents, and experiences. While visiting my sister in the Air Force I developed an appreciation for the Central Texas Style, and subsequently traveled all over the state sampling as many different styles and approaches as I could get my hands, and mouth, around. Further exploits took me on an extended journey through Memphis, Kansas City, and North Carolina, incorporating an endless stream of novel techniques into my repertoire. Lastly, I was fortunate enough to train with some of the Best BBQ Pitmasters in the nation, including famed North Carolinian gurus Ed Mitchell and Red Bridges, Memphis pro Larry Barnes, and Texan legends Aaron Franklin and Bradley Robinson. The decade and a half of perseverance, coupled with no shortage of good fortune, has allowed me to compete handily in several barbeque competitions, including a first place finish in ribs and third place result in sauce.
I want to take this gift for succulence to the masses, which formed the basis of the idea for starting a Barbeque food truck.
We will be offering 4 different types of meat: Beef, Chicken, Pork and Lamb, all locally sourced from reputable, organic farmers and vendors. I have spent the last decade building and honing my craft, from the type of cuts of meat that I prepare to the seasonings and spices I use for each one of them. We make everything from scratch and produce the highest quality BBQ that you can get.
The list below shows some of our staple menu items and the way that they will be prepared.
- Beef Brisket- seasoned with our Brisket Rub and smoked for 16 hours until juicy and tender

- Beef Ribs AKA Dino Ribs- marinated and rubbed with our house seasoning and smoked for hours until they are falling off the bone.
- Pork Ribs- seasoned with a variety of spices and smoked. You can choose to add butter to them for a richer factor of flavor.

- Pulled Pork- Seasoned with our House Blend of Spices and Smoked for hours until fall-apart tender. Shredded and served.
- Sausages that we make from scratch with a special blend of spices for each type of meat Beef, Pork or Lamb.

- Smoked Lamb- marinated and seasoned with a very special blend of spices, smoked for hours until perfectly tender and finished on the grill.
- Whole or Half Chicken wet marinated, smoked, and finished on the grill.

I am asking for your help to launch this vision, starting with a Food Truck that can be taken around the entirety of the Northern California area. With the same hard work and dedication I used to get this far I hope to eventually build the business into a restaurant and then a franchise. The initial money that I need is going toward the down payment on a Food Truck or Trailer (depending on how much we raise), custom canopy, permits, licenses and the cost for inventory to help kick things off.
Cost of Inventory
- Plan A: Food Truck and Custom Wrap- total cost $100,000
- Plan B: Food Trailer: total cost $65,000
- Kitchen Appliances- $7,000
- Custom Canopy, Tables, Chairs and Business Signs- $3,000
- Permits, Licenses, Parking, and Insurance - $10,000
- Marketing - $5,000
We ask that your hearts lie in supporting the local food economy, celebrating food as nourishment and providing opportunities for community members of all walks of life to connect with each other and our beautiful ecosystem. I hope to change my community, my family, my life and my future so please help and show your support however you can. I cant wait to serve you at Jay Dubz.
We will be having a Launch Party for all Donors.
