Jay was 54 years old and on SSI disability for health reasons. Jay unexpectedly passed away on 2/14/17 of a massive heart attack. Jay left behind wife Kristy and two children. The youngest is Jaylene a junior in High School and son Wyatt who is 21.
The way SSI works is not good in this case, Kristy who is 52 does not receive the $1,500 a month payment from SSI that her husband was getting, but the minor daughter gets a reduced amount of $800/month until she reaches 19.
Kristy works part time as a beautician. She now is in a predicament of having her income cut in half and loss of her health insurance. She said goodbye to her husband of over 25 years on 2/20/17 and now she is looking for work with insurance.
Her immediate issue is making her $649/month mortgage payment.
Jay left her a $230 pension that she can start collecting in July.
