The Jay B. Silverstein Scholarship Fund was started in the wake of the tragic and untimely
passing of Jay Silverstein in August 2019. He was an accomplished hospitality industry pioneer,
longtime member and former President of SHFM, and had an existing track record of inspiring
new generations on future Food Service and Hospitality professionals. Jay Silverstein had a
lifetime career of accomplishments in the hospitality industry such as the Silver Plate Award
and the Lifetime Achievement Award with his beloved SHFM.
His passing inspired his family, friends, and colleagues to create a timeless legacy to remember his hard work and passion for the industry through a unique college scholarship program in his honor.
The Jay B. Silverstein Scholarship Fund has promoted and executed a scholarship contest annually since 2022 to award deserved high school candidates with monetary and prize contributions to inspire their passion for foodservice and hospitality careers in the future. The scholarship contest is conducted through a recipe contest submission over an academic year with finalists having an in person tasting to decide that year’s winner. Prizes are awarded to all of the finalists at the year-end senior awards and hopefully used towards industry relevant degrees, equipment and uniforms.
With your help we have been able to honor Jay’s memory by awarding over $6,000 in scholarships and prizes to aspiring hospitality students. We are hoping to keep this going for many years to come and this year our goal is to raise $5,000 in recognition of the 5 year anniversary of Jay’s passing. Please consider helping us to keep the momentum of our foundation going strong and to keep building steps towards the future.
