On July 18, 2015 at 2:08pm, a little miracle by the name of Jaxson was born weighing in at 1lb 3oz. Jaxson's mom Ima, was only 22 weeks 6 days pregnant and not expecting his early arrival.
The NICU team and OB came and told Jaxson's parents that some decisions needed to be made in regards to how to proceed because she was going into preterm labor. Typically Doctor's don't view a pregnancy viable until 24 weeks. You can only imagine the amount of fear and uneasiness that filled the hospital room. In that moment Jaxson's parents began to pray and really seek God for wisdom and direction.
The statistics of having a 22 week old baby are not favorable, however when the Dr. asked them to make a decision...a decision to either give their son a chance to live or "let him go on his own", with tears in his mother's eyes she told him, "Save my son, I don't care what happens to me just save Jaxson". He paused and said "ok let's take the aggressive route". Ten hours into labor, things got hectic and his mother Ima was rushed into the OR to have an emergency c-section. It takes a lot of strength to make difficult decisions in life, however the irony in this situation is that what seemed difficult has been the best decision. Their faith in God and love for each other has carried them through this tumultuous time.
Jaxson is showing that he is a little fighter. At just 12 days old he went through PDA heart surgery and had a successful recovery. His lungs are still very immature and he is being treated for the excessive fluid in his lungs. When he was 2 weeks old, a head ulstrasound showed that he had a grade 1 bleed in his brain that could heal on its own but is currently being monitored.
He is progressing daily even when minor setbacks occur and his family is encouraged by the resiliance he is showing. With his dad Marc sharing daily updates and creative pictures about Jaxson's journey in the NICU, he has gained an extended family who adore him, support his family and pray for them. As they say, it truly "takes a village to raise a child".

Many dear friends and loved ones have expressed the desire to donate and help in any way they can out of generosity and love for the family so this page has been set up. During this time, while Marc & Ima are focusing on Jaxson's health and meeting with doctors, we know that the medical costs and time away from work for both parents is something that has comes up.

Please help us raise money to cover the cost of Jaxson's medical expenses as well as essential needs. Due to his early arrival, his parents were unable to have a traditional baby shower and adequately prepare for him to enter the world. No donation is too small and please help by continuing to pray for Jaxson and by sharing his story. We hope to reach and surpass the goal of $10,000.00 and make this journey a little easier for The Carnelus family.
