Jaxson's leukemia journey
Donation protected
Hello everyone. Jaxson is my 7 year old grandson. This gofund me is for this beautiful little boy and his family.
Last July, Jaxson began not feeling well. He started losing weight, more tired than usual, and just not acting like his normal self. And then developed a very enlarged lymph node on his neck. After multiple trips to different doctors and being told he had strep, on August 5th, his mom and dad took Jaxson to the ER because things were not getting any better. After blood work and x-rays at the ER, even after being told his "heart looked enlarged" because of the positioning of the nurses, they ultimately sent them home. Only to get a phone call on August 8th and were told that they needed to get more blood work done. That there was a chance he could have leukemia or lymphoma. August 9th, they were once again at another doctor's office to get some more blood work done.
Jordyn and Shawn received a phone call that night from that doctor. Asking if Jaxson can get to Colorado Children's Hospital the very next day.
Unfortunately, on August 10th, they received the devastating news. "Your son has cancer." He was diagnosed with TCell ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia)
And that "enlarged heart" from the x-rays in Cheyenne was, in fact, a 10×10 cm medistinal mass in his chest, causing Jaxson to need oxygen and closely monitored
The oncologists wanted to get chemo started right away. They were unable to get his port put in right away because of the mass in his chest. So they got a PiCC line put in along with a bone marrow aspiration and lumbar puncture with him only slightly sedated. The complications that could have happened if they put him under would have been devastating.
The mass began to go down and finally got his port (central line) placed a few weeks into treatment.
Jaxson had to stay in Denver for the first 6 weeks of treatment. Away from home and his brothers and sister. Along with IV chemo, he was also on steroids. Those caused havoc on his poor body. Lost so much muscle mass that Jaxson ended becoming wheelchair bound and lost the ability to do much of anything, physically, by himself.
When the first phase, induction, was over, Jaxson developed a bone infection in his sternum, causing another week of being inpatient at the hospital. He couldn't even laugh because of the pain it would cause.
Jaxson has been through so much. Multiple blood transfusions, platelet infusions, x-rays , CT scans, heart echos, so many lumbar punctures (which will continue throughout his entire treatment), bone marrow aspirations, chemotherapy, oral medications, so many overnight stays in the hospital and extending periods away from home, physical therapy, all of his blood work that he has to get done and all the traveling that goes along with it. Unfortunately, on the way home from treatment a couple of months ago, their car began to have engine problems. They had to tow their car from Mead, CO, back to Cheyenne. WY.
Jaxson is only 7. It's devastating seeing this little boy going through something like this. Unable to enjoy all the sports he was a part of. Basketball, football, karate, and baseball. He even had to leave in person school to do virtual learning. Because even a fever would become an automatic hospital stay. His entire life and his family's have been completely turned upside down. They are a family of 6. Jaxson has an older brother and a younger brother and sister. It has been challenging having to spend time away from them for Jaxson and for their mom and dad. And having to explain to them that their brother is sick. My son, Shawn, has been having to miss work while they are caring for Jaxson, along with the other kids. Jordyn lost her mom, unexpectedly, in March of 21. And I live in California. They are limited with help.
Please keep this little boy and family in your prayers. Any help financially would be so appreciated by the family. Unfortunately, Jordyn, Jaxsons mom, has not been able to work while he is on treatment to keep Jaxson safe. They will all be extremely grateful! They have such a long journey ahead of them, about 3 years.
Thank you all for the support! Please remember, there is no amount too small. Above all, please keep them in your prayers.
