Jax's Medical Needs: Your Help Matters

This is our story… On October 2nd, 2023, I was 37 weeks pregnant and on my way to work when I was rear-ended by a Coolsys HVAC van, which then caused me to hit the car in front of me. This kick-started my labor, but then later on it plateaued, and we were sent home! Five days later, my labor started again, and we headed to the hospital. Here, it was found that my blood pressure was uncontrollably high, and they discovered I had preeclampsia. They delivered Jax via C-section. Later that morning, they discovered Jax has situs inversus of all of his organs. The morning we were supposed to go home, the nurse came in and checked his oxygen; it was extremely low, and he had to be transferred to the NICU. Here, they found out he had human metapneumovirus and parainfluenza viruses 1 and 2. He was in the NICU for almost two weeks fighting these off!

We expect medical bills to show their ugly faces as they did. Our medical bills for all of these things totaled over $500,000. Thankfully, we have had some coverages, but we have still been responsible for almost $30,000 worth of bills. This doesn’t include surgeries Jax just had and all of the many specialist appointments we have at Seattle Children’s!

Thinking since the accident caused so many of these traumatic things, we hired attorneys who have completely put us through the wringer. Through all of this, almost two years since the accident, we still haven’t settled. Nothing is moving forward in any way, and even if it does, we would be lucky to walk away with $1,000, which barely even covers a medical bill!

My husband and I don’t normally ask for help for anything ever! But we don’t know how people do these types of things!
