Hi I’m Rachel and I am Jax's stepmom!
I've started this fundraiser to help Jax's parents handle any medical bills and other expenses that are to come!
Jax, 9, is a smart, strong and funny young man. He loves the outdoors! Jax was diagnosed Monday 11/6 with a brain tumor. After weeks of being sick and having headaches his mom demanded a CT scan where they found the mass. Jax is undergoing a 10hr surgery on 11/8 to remove the mass from his brain. A biopsy will be done after the mass is removed and a plan of action will then take place.
Jax along with mom and dad will be staying in the PICU for the duration of his treatment plan. His next two surgeries include Gtube and
port for chemotherapy. Radiation is set to start on the 27th of November.
On 11/21 Jax had surgery where he received his gtube and chemo port. He was also moved to the 9th floor where they specialize in oncology treatment. He will be resting until the week of 12/4 before treatments begin.
Radiation and chemotherapy treatments began on 12/4. Jax receives radiation every day Monday - Friday and is sedated each time. He receives chemotherapy on Tuesdays. It’s been a rough road. Fighting infections. Fevers. Nausea. Each day is new challenges. New wins. Some mobility has returned but not completely. Jax received massage therapy, physical/ occupational therapy and speech therapy daily. He had such a great support team helping along with the journey!
Jax transferred to Pittsburgh on January 23, 2024 via ambulance and a brigade of trucks and Jeeps. Only one parent could stay with him overnight so parents took a week on and a week off. He received 4 weeks of in patient rehabilitation before he began the St Jude’s Protocol chemotherapy plan which consists of 4 cycles.
Jax completed 3 cycles so far. He was discharged to come home on 4/20/24. He was welcomed home by another brigade of jeeps, trucks and first responders! While at home he was gifted a new dog. A black golden doodle named Brian. He also went fishing, rode in the side by side and had a parade past his house with all if his friends to say hello! Jax was home a week before he spiked a fever and had to be taken to the hospital. Dad rushed him to WVU children’s on Friday 4/26/24 and he’s been hospitalized since due to his numbers being extremely low. He was discharged on 5/15/24. He was able to spend a few weeks at home fishing and enjoying family time before round 4 of chemotherapy. Jax’s final round of chemotherapy began on Wednesday 6/12/24. He was able to be back home by the weekend and requested Texas Roadhouse in the way home. He handled round 4 like a champ.
Now that Jax is home he will have bloodwork multiple times a week. He will receive platelets and blood transfusions as needed. His last scans shows no new regrowth of cancer cells! He will receive brain scans every 3 months to monitor cell activity.
The family truly appreciates all of the support as both families are making Jax is their main priority.
Please support this young boy and his family in any way possible! It’s going to be a long recovery journey! All donations are being split equally between the two households ❤️
