Jax The Retired Service Dog Hip Replacement

Donation protected
We’re Jamie and Hannah, and we’re hoping to raise money for Jax's hip replacement surgery. If you don’t already know Jax, let us tell you a little about him. He’s smart but goofy, and both a bruiser and a big baby. He’s the most lovable dog you could ever meet and everyone he meets falls in love with him too. He was bred for a life as a service dog and spent his first three years working in a prison, helping to keep officers and inmates safe. However, his career was short lived. He had some hip troubles, despite his young age, so he was forced to retire. When we first saw Jax online, it was love at first sight. We adopted him in February 2020.

When we took him on, we knew he had some hip troubles that he’d be on medicine to manage his pain for the rest of his life. He could still enjoy countryside walks, endless games of tug, and his favourite, snuggles on the sofa. Sadly, over the last month or so, he has rapidly declined. He has always been an active, playful dog but suddenly he could no longer support his own weight and was yelping in pain when he tried to stand. He was rushed to the vet and taken in for X-rays and a referral to an orthopaedic specialist. We were heartbroken to hear that Jax needs total hip replacement on his right hip, and potentially the left hip as well, at a cost of £7,500 per hip.

As this is a pre-existing condition, we can’t claim back on his insurance. Sadly, his sudden decline in the last month has cost over £2000 in vet bills and as such we are unable to afford the £7500 for his right hip replacement. He isn’t even four yet and he’s got so much life to live. Any funds that you might be kind enough to donate will be going directly towards the hip replacement, which would really give him a new lease of life. The orthopaedic specialist has advised that he has this very soon and as such we are hoping for mid-January (if we can get the funds together in time).

Whilst we have only had Jax for a short period of time, he is part of our family and we cannot explain really how much he means to us. He has filled our lives and home with so much happiness and love – he’s truly the best dog we could have hoped for. As an ex-service dog, we just want to give him the best life possible. If you do decide to donate, we really could not thank you enough and we are sure that Jax would give you a big slobbery kiss to say thank you.
