Hi, my name is Jax and I am a 6 1/2 year old Bernese Rottweiler. This past October I became a big brother to a human baby and I take that role very seriously although sometimes I fall asleep on the job. My hobbies include hiking, car rides to Dunkin', swimming, taking over the entire couch, suffocating people with my love and kisses, and spending time with my family.

Update as of 3/9/23

On February 25, Jax started acting a little off - lethargic, not eating and having no interest in food or treats (which is very unlike him). We noticed blood in his urine and immediately drove him to the New England Animal Medical Center in West Bridgewater. Since then, we have had two emergency animal hospital visits and some regular vet visits in between. Right now it appears that Jax has an autoimmune disease (Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia) that is causing his red blood cells to be destroyed. During a recent vet visit to recheck his blood cell count, they noticed that his white blood cell count skyrocketed way beyond normal levels since his last recent check. With a drastic change in white blood cell levels, the doctors are concerned that he has some sort of cancer.

In these past two weeks, we have had numerous blood tests, ultrasounds, medication changes, and recently a bone marrow biopsy done to try to find the root of all of this. He spent the last two nights at the Bay State animal hospital in Swansea undergoing care and additional testing. We are waiting on the results from the bone marrow biopsy and another test to see if they can find the suspected cancer.

We are doing all that we can to get answers and help our best friend. We are praying and hoping for a treatable diagnosis. In these almost two weeks we have racked up several thousands of dollars worth of medical bills so far.
