My family had everything it needed, a happy home, a house full of love and laughter, our pets, a good school, and a healthy life. We were living the dream that everyone hopes to live until one day everything changes. We'll never forget Christmas 2015, a time where everyone celebrates life, we were confused about what was about to happen to us. My father, was a very happy person, loved music, loved to cook for us, made the best barbecues and paellas. He was a hard worker and for the last 20 years he made sure he could provide for his family. My Dad was athletic, he did road cycling every weekend. He taught us everything about sports, took us on road trips to see nature and explore God's beauty. We may not of have much but we had it all.
At first, we all thought is was simply a bad stomache ache, then maybe gastritis. But the pain was so agonising, we all knew something bad was going on. After several doctor visits, specialists, tests, we were told he had a tumor taking up 3/4ths of his stomach, and the worst became our cruel reality, the word everyone hates,the one that begins with a "C".
As the months went my Dad went through chemotherapy, a new diet, restricted activity, but became weaker, not only physically but emotionally. He could hardly stand without asistance and after 20 years of service had to take indefinite sick leave. Our Dad the sole provider of our family, now faced with more stress, medical expenses, and worried about us, my mom, our home.
The journey ahead scares us, he will undergo surgery to remove the tumor and most of stomach. His diet will change forever. Life will never be the same, but we are determined to make the best of it.
My sister, age 16 and I age 17 along with my Mom are trying to raise funds to help by Dad with the medical bills and financial hardships. We're reaching out to friends, family, and yes strangers with a kind and generous heart to ask for your help. The last 6 months have been difficult and know that the next 6 months will be crucial.
We know that there are good people out there that care and we will always be grateful and in debt to you. Our prayers now are more meaningful, we've learned to be thankful for everything we have and know that every experience and moment we must learn and give thanks to God.
