Jass Needs Your Help After Car Accident

Hi, my name is Jasmine, but most people call me Jass.

On April 19th, 2025, a reckless driver ran a red light and T-boned a Johns Hopkins University bus. The impact pushed the bus directly into my parked car, totaling it. Thankfully, I wasn’t inside, but the aftermath has left me in a really difficult place.

I've always been super hyper-independent. I’ve had a job since I was 15 and have worked hard to make things happen for myself. Writing this comes from a place of deep vulnerability, because asking for help has never been easy for me. I’ve always tried to save face and push through, but right now I truly need support.

Because I wasn’t in the car at the time of the accident, I will only receive Actual Cash Value (ACV) for the car, which is unfortunately not enough to replace it with a reliable vehicle. Right now, I’m a full-time worker and full-time student, putting in over 60 hours a week while pursuing my bachelor’s degree in furniture and fashion design. I’m paying for school through student loans and out-of-pocket expenses, making early payments on interest when I can, but I still have to cover tuition and materials on my own. I support myself entirely, covering my rent, tuition, and living expenses. I’ve been doing everything I can to stay afloat, juggling classes, work, and my creative practice, with hopes of using my art to build community and design spaces that emphasize care and connection.

On the days I’m scheduled in the office, my commute to both work and school is over an hour each way. Without my car, taking an Uber would be a costly alternative. This car was my only mode of transportation, and I was just one year away from paying it off. Now, instead of the stability I was building toward, I’m faced with the emotional and financial weight of starting over—all because of an accident that wasn’t my fault.

I’m asking for help to get back on my feet and continue working toward my dream. Donations will help with:

• Materials and tools for my art practice

• Continuing to fund my education
