Hi everyone my name is Jasper. I am nearly 2 years old and I’d like to tell you a little about myself.
I had a bit of a rough start to life as I was unwell when I was born, due to meconium aspiration (I had a poo in the womb) I had to get specialist care in Southmead NICU in Bristol. I pulled through and was set to make full recovery, however at five weeks old I had a bleed on the brain which left me brain damaged, with life changing injuries and hydrocephalus. I have sight loss in my right, and I have a weakness on my right side that means I can barely move my right hand and struggle to move my right leg properly. I spent my first three months in hospital
There is nothing that can be done to alter the fact that I will always be partially sighted. But if I have the right care and specialist treatment I will hopefully be able to walk, and I will get the use of my right hand back. Unfortunately the NHS only see me once a month, which isn’t enough to change my situation, so these sessions have to be private and are costing my parents thousands of pounds, which they already struggle to find the money for.
I’m going to certainly face challenges in my early years due to my situation, but with your help I will be able to use both hands, to walk, and go on to live a relatively normal life.
Thank you for reading my story.
