Some of you know me as Jason, Some as cricket, or some as whatever crazy character I've played in an RP setting. So here's where I've been, where I'm at, and where I'm going
========
So...Let's start at the start.
November! My gallbladder went bad, I turned yellow ended up in the hospital with a JP drain and a scope to clear out the ducts.
The next step was "Come back in a month, we'll do blood work, take out the drain and work on getting the gallbladder out."
December! Well, December came and I went in...and they couldn't take the drain out, my liver had swollen to twice its normal size and was now blocking the gallbladder from draining. The doctor at the hospital said, "Hey, we were talking about fatty liver(Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease )...but it's been bumped up to Nash (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) and I don't feel comfortable taking out your gallbladder because frankly if something went wrong, we don't have the equipment, resources or team to do an emergency transplant on your liver."
[Insert 'Hold up!' meme here]
My what did what and transplant!? Yep. Turns out my liver is bad. Like really bad.
So I get referred to Northwestern hospital and spent 4 days there as I go through all the tests and scans again, now I have a team of Hepatologist, and liver transplant surgeons at my bed talking to me about how bad my liver is, There isn't any saving it, and it is on a timer currently.
It still functions properly...for now. but the gas tank is low.
So I go in for surgery on the 30th, Two things can happen.
1. They go in robotically, take out the gallbladder, and everything is fine.
2. They have to do it manually, I.e cutting me open, pulling the liver out, removing the gallbladder and stuffing everything back in.
That being said, Here is where we get into the scary stuff
1. Something happens in the surgery, they can't figure it out, and I die.
2. Surgery goes smoothly, but in the recovery room, my liver decides it's going to "check out" leading to emergency transplant surgery, and possible death.
3. Everything goes great, the liver goes back in, and in < 12 years my liver slowly bites it, and I get on the transplant list.
Bonus Fun fact: in the slide show of liver transplant awareness at the hospital, 20%+ people die on the waiting list. Either from needing it in an emergency or on the waitlist because most people are not donors
On the upside, you can source transplant information and Northwestern has a higher than national average rate of success at 93%.
========
So...that's where I am, Honestly with the amount of time I'd have to take off to recover. we are not going to be in a good place. (3 months minimum of no lifting +10lbs, no driving.)
As it currently stands we're two months back on rent, and two months back on our car because I've been unable to drive from either being in the hospital, or in pain. And I am at the point where I need to ask for help, I have so much to worry about and if things go bad I don't want our vehicle repossessed and I don't want to lose the house and frankly, I can't do that on my own right now.
If you can pitch in, great! if you can't? Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for helping my family stay afloat while I'm getting the medical help I need.
To quote a good man that left us.
Love and laughter
